Refund & Cancellation Policy

How billing works, how to stop it, and when money comes back. Part of the Terms of Service.

Effective date: TODO: set the date this is published · Operator: TODO: registered company legal name and entity type

Draft — not yet legally reviewed. This document is an unreviewed template. It has not been checked by a lawyer, and the highlighted items below are unresolved. Do not rely on it, and do not treat it as a final agreement.

1. How the subscription works

  • Door Pirate is sold as a single subscription. You pay in advance for a billing term and have full access for that whole term.
  • Monthly plan — charged at the start of each month of service and renews automatically every month until cancelled.
  • Annual plannot currently offered. The only plan you can buy today is the monthly one above; if an annual plan is added, it is charged in full and in advance for twelve months of service, and renews automatically at the end of the year at the then-current annual price unless cancelled. An introductory or launch-sale annual price applies to the first term only; the renewal price is the standard one in effect at renewal, and we will email you the renewal amount at least TODO: annual renewal reminder lead time — 30 days is a common default and some states require one in advance.
  • The price you pay is confirmed on the Stripe checkout page before you complete payment. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card number.

2. How to cancel

Cancel yourself, at any time, from Settings → Billing. No email, no phone call, no retention conversation.

Cancelling takes effect at the end of the term you have already paid for. If your payments are up to date, you keep full access until that date, you are not charged again, and the Billing tab shows the exact date access ends. You can reactivate before that date and nothing changes.

If a payment has already failed, cancelling stops the subscription from renewing, but it does not clear the payment that failed — Stripe may still retry that charge, and access stays suspended until it clears. See section 8.

Cancelling is not the same as deleting your account. To have your data deleted, follow the path in the Privacy Policy.

3. Refunds — monthly plan

Because cancelling always leaves you with the access you paid for, monthly subscription fees are generally non-refundable and we do not pro-rate a partial month. If you cancel mid-month you keep access to the end of that month instead of receiving money back.

TODO: decide whether to offer a no-questions-asked window on a first monthly payment (e.g. 7 days). This draft does NOT offer one — it relies on section 5 discretion instead. A stated window reduces chargebacks; no window keeps revenue. Pick one and say so plainly.

4. Refunds — annual plan (if and when one is offered)

There is no annual plan today — see section 1. This section is the policy that would apply if one is added, because an annual plan is a large single payment and is treated differently from a month:

  • Within the first TODO: annual refund window in days — e.g. 14 or 30 of the initial annual charge: email us and we will refund TODO: full refund, or full refund less a stated usage/processing deduction — choose one, and access ends when the refund is issued.
  • After that window: TODO: choose the position — (a) no refund, access continues to the end of the paid year, or (b) a pro-rata refund of the unused whole months. This draft cannot choose for you, and leaving it blank is the single riskiest gap on this page.
  • On an automatic annual renewal you did not intend: contact us within TODO: renewal grace window in days — e.g. 14 of the renewal charge and, provided the account has not been substantially used since the renewal, we will cancel the new term and refund it in full.

5. Refunds we will always consider

Regardless of the above, contact us and we will make it right if:

  • You were charged twice for the same term, or charged after a confirmed cancellation.
  • You were charged the wrong amount because of an error on our side.
  • You could not use the Service for an extended period because of a failure on our side.
  • We discontinue the Service during a term you have prepaid — we refund the unused portion.
  • Someone used your payment method without authorisation (tell us and your bank promptly).

6. What is not refundable

  • Time in a term during which you had access, whether or not you used the product.
  • Dissatisfaction with the data, the scores, or the results of an investment decision — the Terms make clear these are estimates from third-party data with no guarantee of accuracy or return.
  • Coverage gaps in a market you hoped for. Coverage is limited and is not national — as of the effective date the catalogue covers a small number of counties in Missouri, Kansas, and Alabama, and no specific county, listing, or level of inventory is promised. There is no free tier and no trial.
  • Accounts terminated for breach of the acceptable-use rules (scraping, credential sharing, bulk redistribution).

7. How to request a refund

Email TODO: billing contact email from the address on the account, with the charge date and amount. We aim to respond within TODO: support response SLA — e.g. 2 business days and to issue approved refunds within TODO: refund processing time — e.g. 5–10 business days. Refunds go back to the original payment method via Stripe; your bank may take a few more days to post it.

8. Failed payments

If a renewal charge fails, Stripe retries it over several days and we may email you. Access can be suspended while a payment is outstanding and is restored as soon as it clears — you can update your card in Settings → Billing at any time. If it does not clear, the subscription ends.

9. Chargebacks

Please contact us before disputing a charge with your bank — nearly everything is faster to fix directly. A chargeback may result in immediate suspension while it is resolved. We may respond to disputes with our records of your account activity and this policy.

10. Your statutory rights

Nothing here limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law in your jurisdiction, including any statutory cancellation or cooling-off right that applies to your purchase.

TODO: if you sell to consumers in the EEA/UK, the 14-day right of withdrawal applies to digital services and must be stated explicitly, along with the express-consent-to-immediate-performance wording at checkout. This draft assumes a US-only customer base.
